Company description
Welcome to Brighton, Hove and District Branch Samaritans, located in the sunny seaside city of Brighton and Hove. As well as the core Samaritan listening service that we provide from our centre in Hove we also support our local community in a number of ways: Within many prisons, Samaritans have trained Listeners to support other prisoners who are in emotional distress. The Listeners are prisoners trained by Samaritans - they volunteer for this very demanding and important role, and can be called on throughout the day and night. The Samaritans who make up the Brighton branch prison team visit the prison Listeners every Saturday and on two Wednesdays each month. We also support the staff in the prison and are involved in initiatives organised by the Safer Custody team at HMP Lewes.
We regularly receive requests from a variety of groups and organisations asking us to come along and talk about Samaritans. An increasing number of these come from local schools who want to include our specially adapted sessions in their course curricula. This is a fantastic way for us to promote our work to the often hard to reach 14-16 year olds ( Years 10 and 11 ) who may at some point in their lives need someone to talk to or who may, themselves, become Samaritans of the future. If you would like us to come and talk in your school or organisation about what we do please do get in touch using the General Enquiries link.

Facing the Future support groups give people bereaved by suicide the opportunity to meet others who have lost someone to suicide and share their experiences and feelings. Each support group is run by two trained volunteer facilitators from Samaritans and Cruse Bereavement Care and the groups run once a week over six cons…
